Train for an In-Demand Career as a Surgical Tech

From routine to life-saving medical procedures, Austin Community College’s Surgical Technology Program prepares you to assist in surgeries. You’ll learn the fundamentals of the surgical environment, surgical equipment preparations, handling specimens, and operating room procedures. The Surgical Technology Program is designed to prepare entry-level surgical technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession. Students can complete an associate degree to take the national certification exam.

The Surgical Technology Program at ACC is a special admissions program with limited availability. Students preparing for the program should select “General Studies in Pre-Health Sciences” as their major on the application. Because requirements may change, consult the program website to confirm current requirements. Admission to the college does not guarantee entrance into a particular course or program of study.

Before students can train in a program such as Surgical Technology, they must major in General Studies in Pre-Health Sciences.
