Become a Professional Firefighter

Austin Community College’s Fire Protection Technology Program offers certificate and degree options to help you gain entry-level firefighter skills or advance your leadership credentials. Our state-accredited regional training academy is a rigorous but rewarding 16-week program that prepares you for the Texas Commission on Fire Protection’s certification exam in basic fire suppression. We also offer an associate degree for current firefighters seeking to advance their careers with our associate degree.

The Austin Community College Fire Training Academy is a state-accredited regional training program that prepares you for an entry-level position as a professional firefighter. Graduates of our Academy are located throughout Central Texas and beyond, making a difference in the communities they serve.

The Fire Training Academy is a special-admission program. Applicants may submit their Academy application before or after they complete the ACC general application. Applicants are encouraged to complete the ACC admissions process as early as possible. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Academy.
