Train for a Career as a Pharmacy Tech

Become a critical part of healthcare and help patients recover and maintain their well-being by studying with the Pharmacy Technician Program at Austin Community College. You’ll learn to distribute safe and effective medication to patients through laboratory work, data entry, inventory management, and customer service.

ACC’s Pharmacy Technician Program is unique in Texas and one of only a few programs nationwide with a dual-accredited program offering transferable college credits and continuing pharmacy education. Multiple certificates, stackable credits, and an associate degree track allow you to build your resume while working in ACC’s state-of-the-art training facility.

Students interested in a pharmacy tech job must get a certificate or an associate degree from an accredited program. 

The Pharmacy Technician Program at Austin Community College is a special admissions program with limited availability. Students preparing for the program should select General Studies in Pre-Health Sciences” as their major on the application. Because requirements may change, consult the program website to confirm current requirements. Admission to the college does not guarantee entrance into a particular course or program of study.

What Does a Pharmacy Tech Do?

Pharmacy technicians must be highly accurate and detail oriented. Their responsibilities include:

  • Preparing prescriptions and refills
  • Labeling medications
  • Compounding medications
  • Processing claims
  • Taking inventory

Continued advances in pharmaceutical technology will increase the demand for trained pharmacy technicians. Graduates can work in retail and hospital settings, mail-order pharmacies, compounding pharmacies, and in advanced areas such as pediatrics, chemotherapy, and pharmacy informatics or robotics.
