How to Get Started
Students new to ACC must complete our admissions process. If you are a previous ACC student, you will not need to re-apply. However, you may need to contact ACC Admissions and Enrollment to ensure your information is up-to-date.
Step 1: Learn About the Program
Watch the on-demand info session and schedule a 1:1 appointment with the Program Coordinator.
Step 2: Choose Your Path
There are two pathways into the BAS Software Development program:
Direct Path
Best for: returning students, transfer students, and anyone who is TSI Complete and is ready for upper-division coursework that has prerequisites.
First step: Submit a completed BAS application once you are TSI Complete. The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state-required assessment of reading, writing, and math skills that helps ensure students are prepared for college-level coursework.
Foundation Path
Best for: Recent graduates and career changers.
First step: recent high school grads, career-changers, or students who want a stronger foundation before upper-division work.
Step 3: Meet the Admission Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be TSI Complete in Math and ELAR (Texas Success Initiative).
- Submit a completed Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Software Development application by the application deadline.
Recommended Course Sequence (Both Paths):
OSA Computer Programming or OSA Networking → Java Certificate → AAS Computer Programming → BAS Software Development
Preferred BAS Electives:
- COSC 1336
- COSC 1337
- ITSE 2309
- ITSE 2321
- ITSE 1302
- ITSE 2317
- ITSE 1345
- ITSE 2264 or another programming elective (COSC 2436 preferred)
Step 4: Apply
Application Deadline: September 30, 2026, 5:00 PM CST
Decision Notification: October 5, 2026
Admitted Students Begin: Spring 2027
Application dates are subject to change. Check the department website for the most current deadlines.
Step 5: Complete Your Degree
Admission does not require a minimum GPA. Once admitted, students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA to remain in good standing and graduate.
Enrollment in 3000- and 4000-level BAS courses is limited to officially admitted BAS Software Development students. Most upper-division courses meet in person, typically in the evenings at Highland Campus.
